AMEX: Trick Shot
Design, Fabrication, Installation
US Open - NYC
Sept 2022
In collaboration with Momentum Worldwide, FKB brought this one-of-a-kind installation to the 2022 U.S. Open in New York City as part of the US Open American Express Fan Experience at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Known as “Trick Shot,” this unique machine entertained guests throughout the tournament with interactive features including touch-sensor-activated buttons and tactile control of tennis rackets.
Tasked with creating an innovative, interactive exhibit for one of the biggest sporting events of the year, FKB set out to design, fabricate, and install a Rube Goldberg machine inspired by all the action of the tennis court.
Through careful planning and a detail-focused approach to execution, our team created a fully-functional minigame through an iterative design process that often involved reconfiguring measurements and specifications to get the machine to produce seamless results. Assembled on-site for the U.S. Open, Trick Shot featured an array of state-of-the-art technologies seamlessly integrated into the design.
Activated by guests hovering their hand over a sensor, this unique experience challenged users to keep track of the constantly moving balls and score as many points as possible before time ran out.
FKB is incredibly proud of all the hard work our team put into this project, and we want to extend a special thank you to the Momentum team for inviting us to be part of the 2022 US Open Experience.
