Job Details for Design Engineer
Position Summary: FKB is looking to hire a full-time Design Engineer to thrive in a fast-paced, creative setting at the cross-section between the design and fabrication teams of the firm. The Design Engineer works to create and engineer designs that match the client’s wants and needs, meet the strategic goals of the company, and are realistic to build, assemble, and install. This role will require the ability to listen and interpret client demands, and the ability to communicate this to the fabrication team both verbally and by design (shop drawings). RESPONSIBILITIES | ACCOUNTABILITIES
The job responsibilities of our Project Manager include, but are not limited to:
Design physical assets for projects, and then engineer the design for the build. This includes design and engineering in SolidWorks, supported by other applications
Work closely with the Director of Fabrication and Lead Fabricator on realistic designs for fabrication
Works closely with the Technology department to help define the physical/functional parameters of the tech and ensure the integration of these elements into the Project
Responsible for material take-offs, including quantity, pricing, and sourcing of all material orders
Liaises with 3rd-party vendors for outside fabrication and material pricing and procurement
Work through the design process to manage and meet client expectations, this may include on-site work such as surveying sites for dimensions, etc
Collaborate with other team members for material research
Training and mentoring of other staff to build in-house capabilities
Holding at minimum OSHA 30 certification and adhering to OSHA standards, and all other safety and operations standards, including Company policies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience / Skills:
Bachelor’s of Industrial Design or similar design-oriented degree required or 2-year technical school training
SolidWorks or Inventor experience 3-5 years required
Fabrication experience 3-5 years preferred
3 or more years of professional Design Engineering experience are required.
Understanding the fabrication realities behind what you are engineering, including time estimates
Being able to build a product that is structurally sound, while considering aesthetics and cost
General shop experience and general knowledge of shop safety
Able to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally with vendors and clients
Able to concisely document communication with clients and manage their expectations
Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Able to work late nights and weekends as required
Ability to pivot into different projects that are in different stages/phases
