CAMP X Doodles

Design, Fabrication, Installation
Chicago, IL
August 2023

Partnering with Doodles and CAMP Chicago, FKB designed, fabricated, and installed an immersive experience in Lincoln Park centered around the successful multimedia Web3 brand Doodles. Based on an NFT collection of cartoonish figures created by Scott Martin (aka Burnt Toast), Camp Doodles is an all-ages interactive experience that invites guests to create their own Doodles character and interact with various integrated technologies around the multi-room space to earn unique clothing articles for their characters.

For this unique project, we've crafted a truly immersive and inclusive built environment where guests embark on a journey through a magical glowing portal, explore whimsical caverns, slide down vibrant rainbows, and engage with playful elements like rivers, fluffy clouds, a crashed spaceship, a ball pit, and more. The result is an enchanting convergence of digital art and the physical realm, offering visitors an interactive journey into the kaleidoscopic universe of these unique cartoonish figures, their distinctive features, and the colorful backgrounds that have captured the hearts of countless enthusiasts around the world.

Collaborating closely with Doodles, FKB embarked on an exciting journey of ideation, design, and rendering for each element within the space. This creative process resulted in larger-than-life metal flowers that bloom with enchantment, a crashed spaceship boasting an interior room filled with interactive technology, and an exhilarating warped wall where kids can challenge their agility by attempting to conquer it, among others. Our design engineering team then took these designs and set out to determine the feasibility of bringing these magical spaces to life, crafting detailed shop drawings to ensure that every aspect of the design and fabrication aligned seamlessly with the project’s overarching vision.

Following the design engineering phase, our fabrication team brought each element of the space to life using a variety of metalworking, woodworking, and even foam carving skills. Before packing to ship across the country, our Scenic Fabrication team finalized each piece of the massive set, employing industry-leading finishing techniques like clear-coating and scenic painting.

Finally, our installation team—collaborating with CAMP, Doodles, and other teams—embarked on a two-week installation effort to bring Camp Doodles to life. This collective endeavor resulted in the realization of Camp Doodles, showcasing a fusion of imagination, design, and technical expertise.

When visiting CAMP X Doodles, expect an immersive hour-long experience through themed areas like the "Lost Caves" and "Cosmic Clouds,” and make sure to check out the Camp store, which boasts a 2,000-square-foot "Canteen" filled with an array of toys, clothing, and accessories. Inside, you'll discover a creative "Schmutz Bar" for slime creations, a lively "Splatter Room," a performance space for live events, and party rooms perfect for children's birthdays.

CAMP X Doodles is now open in Chicago in the Lincoln Park neighborhood on W. North Ave, between Orchard and Vine Streets. The FKB team wishes to extend a special thank you to all of our partners, especially CAMP and Doodles, for bringing this incredible experience to the world.
