Job Details for Fabricator / Installer
Summary: The Fabricator / Installer is a hybrid role on the Fabrication Team. In this role, one must first and foremost be a capable member of the Fabrication Team, assisting to various degrees in building scope items for projects. Shop work will require the ability to follow shop drawings to work with a wide variety of materials, tools, techniques, and technologies to fabricate items to a professional level of finish.
Also required for this role is the ability to participate in installations at every level. This includes packing & prepping, traveling, loading & unloading, and most importantly installing, and de-installing a wide variety of temporary, and permanent installations. These include but are not limited to; architectural pieces, sculptures, retail build-outs, and temporary experiential events. In addition to working in a professional manner with fellow FKB team members, you will be expected to interact/work with and alongside other trades, and companies. You will be expected to represent FKB professionally in all interactions.
You must be comfortable with traveling to different types of locations for installations. These will vary from in-town (same-day return) to out-of-state / country (multi-day extended stay). In the case of overnight stays all accommodations, travel, and per diems will be covered by FKB in accordance with our employee manual. We will work to provide as much notice as possible for all multi-day / overnight installations, to keep disruptions to a minimum.
All responsibilities are to be completed while maintaining the utmost level of safety and adhering to the protocols laid out by your supervisors, and the Safety Committee.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Fabrication
General fabrication for projects this role is responsible for installing, which may range from metalwork, carpentry, and more (based on background, skills, and competency of the person filling the role)
Following fabrication instructions established by approved shop drawings and instructions from Senior Fabrication Team members.
Proficiency in working with wood, metals, and other common construction materials & equipment to industry standards
Maintaining a streamlined workflow of materials through the shop throughout the process of fabrication, including the use of power tools, hand tools, and material handling equipment.
General upkeep and maintenance of all shop tools and equipment.
Painting and finishing work, as needed.
Installation
Assisting with all aspects of project installations from start to finish
Upkeep, storage, and inventory of all tools and equipment related to installations
Assisting with site surveys, and efficiently sharing information with the relevant parties
Accurately measuring and laying out job sites to established specifications
Ability to problem solve in real time to deal with changing conditions
General Responsibilities
Holding at minimum, or be willing to train for an OSHA 30 certification and adhering to OSHA standards, and all other safety and operations standards, including Company policies and procedures
Operating, or be willing to be trained on heavy equipment such as forklift, scissor lift, VRs
Operating other company vehicles such as flat bed trailers and box trucks
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Fabrication or Director of Engineering
Entry and Intermediate-Level Qualifications:
2+ years of experience with on-site installations
Experience in an event-style production environment strongly preferred
Experience with general finishing, painting,
carpentry, woodworking, and/or metal fabrication experience
Rigging experience preferred
Experience in construction management a plus
2+ years shop experience and general knowledge of shop safety
Knowledge base of rigging, driving trucks, forklifts and other heavy equipment strongly preferred
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Effective communication in high-stress environments
Ability to manage resources on-hand to fulfill task
Exceptional organizational skills
Comfortable working with a diverse range of materials and in diverse environments/settings
Ability to work late nights and weekends, on the rare occasion it’s necessary to meet a project or deliverable deadline
Ability to pivot into different projects that are in different stages/phases
