Partnering with Red Bull and ThrowingStar Collective, a small team from FKB traveled to Salt Lake City to use cutting-edge motion-capture and 3D rendering technology to help world-class speed skater Maame Biney improve her already-impressive performance on the ice.

For this project, we brought three innovative technologies to SLC for a special day in the rink with Maame, her trainer Simon Cho, and a small team from Red Bull. The first technology was a custom-designed bodysuit outfitted with sensors that allowed us to motion-capture Maame’s movement so that she could see a psychological representation of her body and study precisely how she moves. The second was a set of specialized sensors installed in her skates to capture the force she exerted while skating so that Maame could better understand the pressure she was applying in curves versus straightaways. Finally, we utilized Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) technology to create a 3D representation of the ice and Maame's movement to see how technical changes could be made to her routine.
