Job Details for Scenic Artist / Fabricator
Summary: FKB is looking to hire an experienced Scenic Artist / Fabricator to join our rapidly-growing Fabrication team. The Scenic Artist / Fabricator role is a specialized role within the larger Fabrication team. They will be asked to utilize the specific skills that relate to creating environments and experiences. This role will require experience in Sculpting, Painting, Finishing, Prop Making, and general Fabrication over a wide variety of materials, and processes. They will need to follow shop drawings (when applicable), and the direction of senior members of the Fabrication Team, including other Fabricators, Lead Fabricators, and the Director of Fabrication. They will be required to work both in the shop and on-site for installations and activations. At times there will be an expectation to help other members of the Fabrication team and to take on some traditional fabrication tasks as needed.
A critical skill necessary for this role is the ability to work within both small and large teams. Many of our projects incorporate a wide variety of deliverables, from different disciplines that require impeccable communication team-wide. Familiarity with shop craft at a professional level is essential. All responsibilities are to be completed while maintaining the utmost level of safety and adhering to the protocols laid out by their supervisors, and the Safety Committee.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Following fabrication instructions established by approved shop drawings and instructions from Senior Fabrication Team members
Problem-solving within the clear parameters of deadline-oriented projects
Maintaining a streamlined workflow of materials through the shop throughout the process of fabrication, including the use of power tools, hand tools, and material handling equipment
General upkeep and maintenance of all shop tools and equipment
Collaborate with the Fabrication team for material research and procurement, including receiving and checking of orders
Holding at minimum or be willing to train for an OSHA 30 certification and adhering to OSHA standards, and all other safety and operations standards, including Company policies and procedures
Working with senior members of the Fabrication team to further develop skills and processes
Installation of projects on site
Broad duties of the Scenic Artist / Fabricator include:
Hand sculpting a wide variety of materials, especially various types of foam
Working with / finishing objects sculpted by CNC equipment
Some Carpentry, and or Metal Fabrication
Set building/dressing
Prop Making
Sanding / Finishing / Painting to various levels of finish
Set painting including faux finishes, and detailing
Material Management
Shop organization
Cleaning
Other tasks needed for specific projects
Other duties, as assigned
Qualifications:
1-3 years of general shop and/or installation experience required (Theater and film set experience a plus)
Basic knowledge of shop workflow and tools required
Installation and site experience preferred
Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings/design briefs preferred
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Good time management skills and punctuality
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in front of clients, vendors, and other business partners
Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
Ability to operate, or willingness to be trained to operate a forklift
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work late nights and weekends, when it’s necessary to meet a project or deliverable deadline (This is the exception, not the rule)
